Knowing what's now possible why cling to this old implausible narrative? I have no idea what's happening but I highly doubt it's what we've first learned. Wouldn't 'god' have worked out these issues theoretically first? Created computer models before actually creating another consciousness? (if that's even possible) With what we know today, why would we think such simple metaphorical stories such as 'Adam and Eve' have any basis in reality? (other than in principle) Isn't it more likely that we did this to ourselves? (or are doing) Even if someone had to be subjected to this madness, wouldn't it be required only once? To one person? And wouldn't 'god' go first? (afterward most likely to decide it's a bad idea)

by nicolaou ina few years after i quit the meetings my mum needed her medical directive signed and witnessed and she asked if i'd do it.
i was surprised to say the least!.
i think she was just angling to include me and maybe find some lever to get me involved again.

by slimboyfat ini tend to avoid the subject because it's too depressing, so i've probably missed lots of discussion about this issue.
but i read a comment on youtube yesterday that shocked me and made me wonder.
the person claimed that many years ago abusers in society generally identified jws as a safe haven for abusers and joined en masse order to exploit the situation.

I couldn't imagine this network existing. It seems so improbable for a lot of reasons. Mainly because being a witness is no small commitment. All that work just to have access to children? What a miserable life if true. -

In my mind this gives the concept more credibility not less. If this way of viewing a generation is accepted outside of Watchtower then it's not so far-fetched. How often have we heard how ridiculous the overlapping generation concept is because it doesn't match the dictionary definition of "generation". Well, now, "overlapping generation" has it's own Wikipedia entry so it's validated in some way. -

Perhaps this was mentioned as I didn't read all the comments, however, I think this is referred to as a 'decrease in the rate of growth' rather than a 'plunge in the number' of congregations as the total number actually grew over that period. -

Are you saying it's a coincidence that they wrote an article about it in 2012? (btw, this is a sincere question. Maybe this was mentioned as I didn't read all the comments.
I don't have all the details regarding this, however, I have a friend who's parents kicked him out at 17 because they discovered he was gay (yes a Witness). He was able to qualify for benefits to attend college by claiming something like 'parental abandonment' which I seem to recall had benefits beyond the age of 18. Perhaps into his 20's? Do some research into this if you're in the US (or wherever you are). I seem to recall there were some benefits up to the age of 25.
